The Institute is one of the TVET institutions charged with the mandate of training middle level technical and vocational labor force. Its mandated to fulfill the vision of TVET that is “to provide a competitive market driven TVET system delivering competent workforce for sustainable development.”

The Institute started its operations in May 2018 and has experienced a rather steady growth. The institution is among 60 other Technical institutions built by The Government of Kenya country wide. Since its inception, the Board of directors, management, staff and students have collectively embarked on a transformative journey aiming at placing LTTI as a strategic player in National development, and an academia center of Excellence with special attention to Animal Health and production management as well as Welding and Fabrication center of excellence. It is located at Laisamis town in Marsabit County, along the Isiolo-Marsabit highway 165 KM past Isiolo town and 92 KM from Marsabit town.
